I’m finally back in Scotland and back on the blog! This post has been a long time coming, but it’s been a whirlwind from the moment I got my passport and visa.
After months of inactivity it felt like an intense turn-around time to leave in only 8 days. I spent the remainder of my time in Montreal running around to say goodbye to everyone, applying for about 15-20 jobs and spending some quality time with my family.
On Wednesday the 15th, I woke up to a snowstorm which made leaving even more stressful. Flights delayed, connections missed and general storm-like conditions. Air Transat booked me (and all my other fellow UK passengers) on another airline to fly to Toronto. From there it was chaos and we are running around the airport with our luggage, then through security to board our planes that had been delayed for us. There is only one plane a week from Toronto to Glasgow so I was quite anxious to catch it.
The flight was eventful to say the least. We had some bad turbulences and for the first time in my life I had a panic attack on a plane. It wasn’t pretty, but I’m very grateful to the flight attendants that were very kind to me.
And then, a few hours later, here I was in Scotland again! It’s been a mix of sleeping, running around for jobs and seeing all my friends. I can’t summarise two whole weeks without boring you so I thought I’d just give you a highlight on what made me happy since my return to Scotland!
>> Being reunited with the Brit last Thursday! It had been 2 months and 16 days, not that anyone was counting…
>> Returning to our home. I missed our flat and ALL my books!
>> The Brit and I have been exploring our neighbourhood again, going on walks and going out to eat at new little shops that have popped up.
>> On my first day in the country I secured not one, not two, but three job interviews. It’s been unbelievable! I’ve secured an additional two job interviews since. Hopefully one of them offers me a job. Fingers crossed!
>> Beautiful sunshine. So Scotland in February isn’t all that great, but it’s been lovely and sunny here and there. Last Monday I was actually sitting in a t-shirt in the sun for a while. What a feeling! Especially that I left in a storm and two-meters of snow last week in Canada.
>> Reuniting with my friends and meeting their beautiful baby boy who was born in December.
>> Spending a day in Edinburgh for my first interview. What a beautiful city! I had really missed it. I had lunch with the lovely Mel, we visited the National Museum and then went to have tea and cake.
>> Spending a day in Glasgow. I went for a meeting with a publishing contact and in true Glasgow fashion it rained while also being sunny. After our meeting, I passed by the Lighthouse, climbed up the tower to get a wonderful view over the city. I also passed by the very weird GoMA (Gallery of Modern Art) before coming home.
What’s made you happy lately?xx
